Stroudsburg High School senior Avery Francis and Pocono Mountain West High School senior Sheamus McCarroll are the 2019-20 winners of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Sportsmanship of the Year Award, the conference announced Tuesday.
The honor recognizes seniors for the show of sportsmanship throughout the year and their careers.
Francis, who played soccer, basketball and ran track and field, was a team captain in all three sports and earned 12 varsity letters. Francis was a member of the 2016 girls soccer team that qualified for states, was named to the All-EPC soccer team, and helped lead the girls basketball team to three Mountain Division titles. She was also a two-time state qualifier in track and field.
In addition to athletics, Francis was class president and a member of the National Honor Society, a SACC representative for Stroudsburg, homecoming queen, Stroudsburg Rotary class leader, a member of FBLA and Key Club.
McCarroll earned five varsity letters his senior year across cross country, golf, boys soccer, football and track and field, ending his Panther career with 10 varsity letters. In addition to his athletics, McCarroll was ranked sixth in his class and was a member of the SAC Council, National Honor Society, SADD, yearbook staff, and PRIDE committee. McCarroll also volunteers for Salvation Army and Meals on Wheels.
