Muhlenberg College inducts Chapman into honors society
Heather Chapman of Blakeslee was inducted into the distinguished 2020 Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society at Muhlenberg College, Allentown.
Muhlenberg College's newest members of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's most prestigious honor society for undergraduates in the liberal arts and sciences, were celebrated in a virtual event on June 15.
Strict eligibility guidelines, including completion of specific course requirements and placement in the top 15 percent of the graduating class, mean that inductees are among the highest-achieving students at Muhlenberg.
Muhlenberg College students named to spring dean's list
Local students have been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Muhlenberg College, Bethlehem.
Local students are: Heather Chapman and Joseph Romano, Blakeslee; Julia Horn, Cresco; Daniel Burden and Madison Trump, East Stroudsburg; Emily Salvi, Effort; and Kevin Senior, Marshalls Creek.
Muhlenberg College students and Muhlenberg College School of Continuing Studies students with a term GPA of 3.50 or higher were recognized for this academic achievement.
Sopko graduates from Colby College
G. Patrick Sopko of Buck Hill Falls was one of 480 seniors who graduated on May 24 from Colby College in Waterville, Maine. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Sopko, who majored in government, attended Hotchkiss School and is the son of George and Christina Sopko of Mountainhome.
Ithaca College announces dean’s list and local graduates
Ithaca College, New York, names local graduates and dean's list for the spring 2020 semester.
Deans list students: Mara Batt of Stroudsburg; Zachary Broderick of Kunkletown; and Donte Garcia of East Stroudsburg.

Area resident graduates from Mercer University
Darius Gonzalez of East Stroudsburg graduated Mercer University in Georgia, College of Health Professions, with a Master of Public Health and Doctor of Physical Therapy degrees.
Mercer University conferred bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees to more than 2,200 students representing 12 schools and colleges during the 2019-2020 academic year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mercer's four ceremonies were held virtually or rescheduled for later in the summer.
Grum named to spring dean's list at University of Rhode Island
Nick Grum of East Stroudsburg has been named to the dean's list for the spring 2020 semester at University of Rhode Island, Kingston, Rhode Island.
To be included on the dean's list, full-time students must have completed 12 or more credits for letter grades during a semester and achieved at least a 3.30 quality point average. Part-time students qualify with the accumulation of 12 or more credits for letter grades earning at least a 3.30 quality point average.
Bauer earns Psi Chi president status at Alvernia University
Jacqueline Bauer of Saylorsburg has earned the status of president with the University's Psi Chi at Alvernia University, Reading, for the 2020-2021 academic year. Bauer, who is studying psychology, is one of 40 students to earn leadership roles with registered student organizations.
PSAC Scholar-Athletes named at Kutztown University
Kutztown University student-athletes have been named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Scholar-Athletes for the 2019-20 academic year. To be eligible for PSAC Scholar-Athlete honors this year, a student-athlete must have finished the 2019-20 academic year with a 3.25 cumulative GPA or higher.
Local students are: Molly Agnello of Stroudsburg; Kayla Argen of Cresco; and Chelsea Fadio of Blakeslee.
Price named to dean's list at Miami University
Ryan Kiehl Price of Pocono Pines has been named to the dean's list at Miami University for the 2019-20 spring semester.
Miami University students who are ranked in the top 20% of undergraduate students within their division for second semester 2019-2020 have been named to the dean's list recognizing academic performance.
Alker named PSAC-Scholar-Athlete at Bloomsburg University
Emily Alker from Cresco, a member of the field hockey team, was one of a Bloomsburg University school-record 208 student-athletes recognized as Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Scholar-Athletes for the 2019-20 academic year. The 208 Huskies join a PSAC-record 3,762 student-athletes from the league's 18 institutions being named to the list.
