Love is in the air, and on the road this Valentine’s Day weekend.
And while you may be less likely to pull over to steal a smooch on the side of the road, you and your partner may enjoy the chance to steal away some time to share a bit of adventure — and even romance.
You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars on a spa day for two or a heart-shaped tub (or maybe you do, it is the Poconos after all). In fact, all you really need is a tank of gas, and perhaps your road trip snack of choice.
Remember those days when a drive was the only alone time you’d be allowed with your honey bun? All you needed was a good mix tape (or CD), a pack of gum to share, and each other, of course.

Gas stations are sparse along this route, so be sure to fill up ahead of time.

Where to eat
Dig into Italian food along the way
If you’re feeling peckish along the way, try out Basso’s for some comforting Italian fare (6525 Route 191, Cresco.)
If you’d rather wait until you reach your destination, some high-rated stops include Overboards (1215 Route 507, Greentown) and the Boat House (141 Route 507, Hawley). Both boast a respectable menu and lakeside views.
Hawley Silk Mill’s premiere coffee house offers doughnut specials each Sunday. Traditional flavors abound, but give the maple bacon a try. Cocoon also serves up a selection of light eats made with local meats and cheeses. (8 Silk Mill Drive, Hawley)
What to do
Promised Land State Park
Just miles away from Lake Wallenpaupack, Promised Land State Park offers lush green space that is a breath of fresh air. (Route 390, RR 1 Box 96, Greentown)
Pay a visit to Hawley Silk Mill
At the country’s largest surviving (and historic) bluestone-laid building, you can shop, take in an art gallery and try out Pilates. Hopping Eagle nano-brewery serves up crisp, locally-brewed beers with a millennial-friendly edge.
Total trip time from Stroudsburg (without stops): 36.5 miles, 56 minutes.
Sunday’s forecast could see temperatures in the low 40s, making for a balmy winter’s day in the northern Poconos. Why not take in one of the region’s most breathtaking views. There’s plenty of places to park and get up close and personal with the third largest lake in Pennsylvania.
