Though it won’t be the same type of carnival this year, the Pocono Mountain Volunteer Fire Company is still putting on a family friendly show.

The three-day event starts on 7 p.m. Thursday with a "Night Under the Stars" drive-in movie featuring "Shrek."

The funny flick, "RV," starring the late actor Robin Williams, will be presented on Friday.

On Saturday, their will be a $30,000 raffle drawing, along with a fireworks display.

The Mount Pocono-based carnival, which would have celebrated its 94th year, draws locals and tourists alike and is known for its rides, raffles, food and games.

This year, they canceled the main event due to the pandemic.

"It’s a totally new venture for us this year," said Dan Luddeni, president of the Pocono Mountain Volunteer Fire Company. "The whole reason that we came up with these three nights as an alternative is because people have been cooped up for months and now that things are starting to open up, we figured this would be a really good fun night out. We have huge carnival grounds and social distancing should not be an issue."

While you may not be able to ride a Ferris wheel, there will be still be carnival-type favorite food for sale such as hot dogs, burgers and funnel cake.

Local musicians Tom Riccobono and Acoustic Pursuit will perform on Thursday and Friday, respectively.

"We will also have free games for kids and adults and fire prevention displays," Luddeni said.

Tickets are limited and may be purchased online.

This year’s sponsors include by Bill’s ShopRite of Daleville and Mount Pocono and Roy Clark Trucking.

"We’ve had pretty good sponsors over the years and they’ve actually hung on for this venture even though it’s different," Luddeni said.

Pre-sale tickets are $24.99 per car for Night Under the Stars and $12 for the fireworks show. All proceeds will benefit the fire company.

"For 93 years we’ve had our annual carnival which fully funds all our capital expenses, truck purchases, and (maintenance of) our buildings," Luddeni said. "Without having (the carnival) it leaves a pretty big hole."
